Discovering the Path to Freedom

There comes a time when you no longer desire to hold yourself back in an unconscious manner. Through awareness you begin to realize that the safety measures you had put in place no longer keep you safe and now only keep you stuck where you are. You see that to continue on your path, you must step under the caution tape and walk where you were previously told to never venture into. One must look deep within themselves to stir up the remaining courage that resides within the corners of the soul and use it to push yourself into uncharted territory. This is the beginning of the hero’s journey home.

This path will not be easy, smooth, or straight, but instead will require you to climb the highest peaks and descend into the places that remind us of that which we call Hell. There will be many days where you would rather turn back time and return to the where everything was familiar and comfortable to you. Only then do you realize that the path has disappeared behind you, forcing you to keep pushing forward. With every step onward, the body and mind become unfortunately increasingly fatigued until you come to the verge of giving up completely. You begin questioning your life, unsure if you have any purpose whatsoever, all while wondering if this journey was really worth it at all. The simple answer to this ultimate question is yes. It is very much worth it all. Without giving in to the struggle and pressure you lay upon yourself, you move forward not knowing if anything you are doing is making a difference whatsoever. This is where all the effort is being implemented, silently, even without you knowing it.

Each decision leads you to who you desire to be in life, to who you really are under all the layers that you have created over your authentic being.

With one foot in front of the other, you continue walking at whatever pace is appropriate to you. There is no proper speed to move at, no proper way to go about anything except for whatever feels, deep inside, right to you. Day after day goes by as you make a conscious effort to do the best you can and be the best individual you can be. Each decision leads you to who you desire to be in life, to who you really are under all the layers that you have created over your authentic being. All of the bad habits, the intrusive thoughts, the fears which you stayed away from, and so many more “personality traits” must be dealt with in time. Each time you are able to recognize a toxic habit within you, you must act accordingly to transmute it into something new, something for the betterment of yourself. To do this you must do three things: observe, understand, and reprogram.

The most important part of self-improvement is to observe yourself and witness that which you wish to change. If you do not see where any improvement can take place, then there will be no desire to change. Why change if you are already great how you are? It is important to remember that every single day of a person’s life there is the opportunity for change which can take place to improve who you are as an individual. Observing our toxic traits, such as nail biting, lying, anger, self-sabotage, etc. is the first step to saying, “I do not like when I do this, I want to make a change” and deciding that you are going to do just that.

Once you observe yourself and see where improvement can take place you must then understand how you wish to grow. If you are seeing that anger is sparked within you over situations you wish did not have control over you then it’s up to you to figure out what changes must take place so you can react in a more appropriate manner. This can consist of breaking down the options of your outcomes in any event at hand. When you would normal get angry and potentially start a dispute, it is recommended that next time you take a pause before reacting, take a few deep breaths in, really think about why you are being triggered, and respond in a way that does not come from the emotional reaction system within.

This is a basic overview of one potential combination of changes that could take place. There are many variations that may be much more appropriate to you and truthfully, it will take many times of trial and error to learn what works best to obtain the desired result. The biggest thing to remember is that this does not happen overnight. You must consciously observe your behavior on a regular basis so that you are able to continuously catch yourself when you slip up and from there you can make the changes you want to see. Over time, a new way of reacting is programmed and becomes a habit, creating a new reaction that takes place without a second thought needed. This shows that you have changed your thought process from a reaction of anger to that of deep thought, reasoning, and understanding. You will see that conversations and relationships will grow between you and others exponentially. You will be able to interact with others in an observational way, without being triggered if the wrong thing is expressed to you.

This is just one example of how you can witness a negative behavior, break it down to see where you can improve, and implement those improvements consciously. It’s important to not get down on yourself if you don’t see the changes happening instantly, or if it is harder than you thought it would be. Anything that is difficult to do is almost always worth doing. Throughout time you will continue to do this to reprogram who you are with new and more healthy habits from a place of conscious intention. Before you know it, you have transformed into a new person, a person you are proud to be.
